As we are deep into the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s no surprise that everyone has been encouraged to stay home. With so much time being spent indoors and away from your friends and family, you might find that your mental health has started to slip. During these times, it’s very important to try to keep your spirits up, as keeping a positive mindset can make the biggest difference during these stressful times. Here, we’ve highlighted 3 great tips on how to do this.
Stay Connected
Staying socially active with friends and family during times of isolation is a surefire way to boost your mood. Being human, we require social connections and human interaction. Going long periods of time without this can cause us to feel lonely, depressed and anxious. There are so many ways that you can connect with your loved ones, whether Facetime, Zoom, Google Hangouts or otherwise. Having even a quick chat a great way to keep your spirits up and focus on those that matter to you most.
Stay Physically Active
Physical activity is known to play a major role in your overall health and wellness. When you engage in such, you are releasing endorphins, which will improve your mood and make you feel better. While gyms and rec centres are temporarily closed, there are other great ways to get a boost from the comfort of your own home. For example, many fitness studios are offering online classes, both free and by donation. If this isn’t your thing, something as small as going for a walk or light jog is a great way to get that needed physical activity.
Eat Proper Meals and Maintain a Balanced Diet
If you have a little more free time on your hands than usual or are currently working remotely, this is a great opportunity to improve your cooking skills and learn new recipes. Maintaining a balanced diet and preparing freshly cooked meals daily will enhance both your physical and mental health. Of course, it is also important to keep some of your favourite sweets and snacks on hand -balance is key!
While the status of our current environment is uncertain, we know for sure that these tips can help keep your spirits up in the meantime! We hope everyone is staying safe, healthy and positive!
